Driving positive narratives about change and accountability

The world over, a lack of accountability is undermining fair, equal societies; the most marginalised voices are not heard in critical conversations and leaders are not held responsible for their decisions. This in turn means people in power are not held to account or answerable for the use of that power. Applications open for Team Nigeria’s SDG16 Innovation Challenge

The SDG16 innovation challenge is an initiative to find creative solutions for SDG16. The competition supports young men and women ages 15 – 35 years to develop ideas, build skills and connect with others working towards a shared goal of strengthening accountability, the rule of law and access to justice for Nigerians. Accountability Lab Nigeria participates in roundtable discussion on girl child education

Tech non-profit, the Noble Missions for Change Initiative, recently partnered with the World Bank and Accountability Lab Nigeria to convene a roundtable discussion on finding solutions to empower the girl child. The event, themed ‘Empowering girls for a better tomorrow through quality education’, was held at the World Bank office in Abuja on October 14, 2019 in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child. South Africa Hosts Integrity Summit & Integrity Icons Awards Ceremony

On the 10th of October 2019, Accountability Lab South Africa celebrated a journey that was one-year in the making when they named and famed their five Integrity Icons of 2019 at a ceremony in Johannesburg. ‘Conspicuous integrity’ can change national perceptions of graft

By Shirin Ahlhauser Transparency International's CPI may not be perfect, but the perception of corruption in a country matters. As one study found, if you go to a country where you expect corruption, and someone solicits a bribe from you, you are more likely to give the bribe. The reverse is also true. If you go to a country that you do not think of as corrupt, and someone solicits a bribe from you, you are less likely to pay the bribe. Youth Power in Open Government

Young people now represent 41% of the global population, and the majority of the population in the 48 least developed countries.
