Liberian Hipco stars release Integrity Icon song

Two of the Liberian hipco music scene's biggest names, Amaze Yor and Beat Master, have collaborated with Accountability Lab to produce a song for our flagship Integrity Icon programme in Liberia. The two artists are currently Hipco Accountability Ambassadors who mentor other underground artists to create music for social change. Hipco is a genre of dance music that blends hip-hop, R&B and traditional Liberian music with lyrics in colloquial dialects spoken in Liberia. South Africa Hosts Integrity Summit & Integrity Icons Awards Ceremony

On the 10th of October 2019, Accountability Lab South Africa celebrated a journey that was one-year in the making when they named and famed their five Integrity Icons of 2019 at a ceremony in Johannesburg. Hosted at the historic Constitution Hill, the festivities were preceded by an Integrity Summit in which a panel led by South Africa Country Director Dadisai Taderera discussed integrity and accountability in government, business and society. ‘Conspicuous integrity’ can change national perceptions of graft

By Shirin Ahlhauser Transparency International's CPI may not be perfect, but the perception of corruption in a country matters. As one study found, if you go to a country where you expect corruption, and someone solicits a bribe from you, you are more likely to give the bribe. The reverse is also true. If you go to a country that you do not think of as corrupt, and someone solicits a bribe from you, you are less likely to pay the bribe. When social expectations of corruption become internalized, bribery and corruption are perpetuated, and could even become unconsciously perpetuated, based on perceptions of corruption [...]

GLOBAL REBRAND OF INTEGRITY IDOL CAMPAIGN

Accountability Lab is rebranding its principal public service campaign. Integrity Idol is a campaign that the Lab has run since 2014 after launching in Nepal. The grassroots program celebrates public servants of integrity and has since expanded to Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Mali, Liberia, Uganda, South Africa and, most recently, Mexico. The campaign invites the public to nominate outstanding public servants in various government sectors who demonstrate honesty and integrity under difficult circumstances. It also aims to reframe debates around corruption by ‘naming and faming’ do-gooders, rather than naming and shaming wrongdoers. The Lab then works with the winners to shift norms [...]
