Talking Accountability in Alaska: THE Biggest Challenge for Sustainable Tourism

By: Blair Glencorse, Executive Director of the Accountability Lab I was lucky enough to attend my first Adventure Travel World Summit in Anchorage in September, and what a trip it was — full of incredible people, ideas and conversations. Coming from the non-profit rather than tourism world, it was a huge learning experience for me. The ATTA and its members play a critical role in pushing for responsible stewardship of our planet through support for sustainable tourism. I knew before I landed that accountability and corruption issues were a massive problem in the tourism industry. I’ve seen that first hand [...]

Making All Voices Count: ICT can help improve governance, public services

By: Faran Mahmood, a Cambridge graduate and management consultant. This article was originally published by The Express Tribune. The recent attention to accountability, thanks to Panama Papers, has exposed contentious political fault lines that have emerged in the electoral system.   Though opposition parties have pitched a justified case for electoral reforms, the politics of getting it done have not changed. It is a howling storm of misrepresentation as parliament lacks the political will to translate such commitments into substantive political reforms. Therefore, people on one side of the spectrum are trying to fix the system while the other side stands [...]

Music Post-Ebola: Artist Amaze says Hipco Songs Made Tremendous Impact

By: Heather Maxwell. This blog was originally published by Voice of America.   Music had a big role to play both during and in the aftermath of the West Africa Ebola epidemic. Henry Amazin’ Toe, a.k.a Amaze, is a well-established hipco artist who composed and recorded such songs.I met Amaze several times during my stay in the Liberian capital. The first time was during a group interview I held in Mamba Point with other artists (Teddy Ride and Margaret [...]

The government should encourage merit

By: Shakeel Anjum. This article was originally published by the Associated Press Service. While talking at the launch of Idol Integrity organized by Accountability Lab with the collaboration of National Press Club in Islamabad,  Muhammad Talal Ch of the Pakistan Muslim League said that the Cyber Crime Bill 2016 will not affect electronic and print media rather this law will deal only with cyber crimes. Helping Liberians In Proper Voter Decision-Making: Accountability Lab-Liberia’s Worthy Initiative

This article was originally published by the Daily Observer. The most important act in any election anywhere is not how much money is spent on election preparations, how well they are organized or how much rhetoric and cash candidates spend to woo voters. What is rather more central, critical, compelling in any election is the decision or those decisions each voter will make inside that voting booth. The fundamental question facing the voter will be who to vote for. Should I vote for a crook, a hypocrite, a selfish and corrupt candidate who only wooed me with a bag of [...]
