Lessons on enhancing women’s representation in Pakistan’s judicial system

The underrepresentation of women in Pakistan’s legal and justice systems is a significant impediment to societal equity and progress. This issue was brought into sharp focus during a recent orientation session organized by UN Women for the Gender Parity Project, to which Accountability Lab Pakistan is an implementing partner. The event underscored the critical need for a multifaceted approach to gender parity, highlighting both the achievements and persistent challenges in this area. Yuguelito: Housing, Self-Governance & Accountability

Access to decent housing is emerging as one of Mexico's significant global challenges. This is especially true after the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw increased speculation and a wave of global north digital nomads that favored the country's urban centers. However, the housing crisis is not a new issue. In Mexico, housing is deemed a private investment opportunity and not a right. Existing public policies aren’t focused on providing housing, but instead, they’re focused on favoring the real estate market. While it is true that decades ago, large social housing projects were put in place, and public policies focused on granting [...]

Collective CSO action critical for climate justice

Increased climate funding requires a focus on existing governance challenges resulting from a fragmented and opaque climate finance architecture. Growing evidence shows climate finance does not reach communities most impacted by climate change. When projects make their way to the communities, they do not include local voices in decision-making processes.  Civil society has been a critical player advocating for the most vulnerable communities and has been instrumental in driving local, regional, and global climate action. Despite setbacks and slow response from governments, it has been able to rally around common agendas demanding an end to fossil fuel, debt relief to [...]
