Accountability Lab is looking for an Accounting Assistant to support its work and activities at AL Global, a 501c3 located in Washington DC.
The Role
We are looking for a meticulous team player to perform daily accounting tasks that will support the Finance Manager as the second member of a growing finance team. Accounting Assistant responsibilities include managing expense reports and reimbursements, entering financial transactions into our internal databases and reconciling invoices. If you have an accounting degree and are interested in gaining experience in bookkeeping procedures, we’d like to meet you. Ultimately, you will help our finance department run smoothly, ensuring transparency and efficiency in all transactions.
Who You Are
You collaborate with cultural and gender sensitivity and have a keen interest in global politics, advocacy and issues of accountability and anti-corruption. You are an excellent multi-tasker who is able to independently prioritize and implement daily, weekly and monthly tasks.
Accounting Assistant Responsibilities
- Record day-to-day financial transactions and completing the posting process.
- Reconcile sales taxes, payroll taxes, 401k contributions, and bank accounts at the end of each month.
- Reconcile invoices and identify discrepancies
- Create and update expense reports
- Process reimbursement forms
- Enter financial transactions into internal databases
- Check spreadsheets for accuracy
- Maintain digital financial records
- Issue invoices to customers and external partners, as needed
- Review and file payroll documents
- Participate in annual audits
Requirements and skills
- Work experience as an Accounting Assistant or Bookkeeper
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping procedures
- Familiarity with finance regulations and US Federal Regulations for grants and agreements.
- Good math skills and the ability to spot numerical errors
- Hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software QuickBooks Online
- Organization skills
- Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information
- BSc/Ba in accounting, finance or relevant field
- Knowledge of Spanish and/or French (not mandatory)
Compensation and Logistics
$52,000 a year, excluding benefits (401k, dental, health insurance). This position will ideally be based in Washington, DC, or surrounds. We offer a flexible remote working policy however, we will need you to work from the office at least once a week. We offer a very generous leave and personal development package and a fun, multicultural work environment.
