Washington DC, 5 August 2022 – We’re proud to announce that Doussouba Konaté has been appointed as the interim Country Director for Accountability Lab Mali. Doussouba has been an essential part of the Lab’s global family for four years, having first joined in 2018 as a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Officer for AL Mali and Niger. She later joined the AL Global team in 2020 as a Program Officer, supporting the programming in Mali, Niger, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Guinea-Bissau.
Doussouba holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Montreal and returned to Mali after many years of professional experience in France and Canada to be closer to her family and contribute to her country’s development. She is also a Fellow of Feedback Labs, an Obama Leader of the Obama Foundation, and one of the Future of Good organization’s Top 21 Young Impact Leaders – Social Change Intrapreneurs to Watch in 2021.
“As someone who chose to return to her homeland and work with the Lab on important causes such as good governance, I am honored to give back to my communities and make a difference,” she says. “We have put in place beautiful projects and made significant progress over the last four years. It will be essential to continue the efforts that have already begun to ensure that our work and our actions can create positive change in our communities and make governance work for people.”
Doussouba brings a wealth of experience to her new role as Interim Country Director for Accountability Lab Mali. Working for the Lab has allowed her to better shape her vision and engagement on governance issues in the Sahel region and Africa. Doussouba has developed and implemented a wide range of projects that promote social cohesion, fight corruption, and promote integrity, as well as facilitating the inclusion and participation of young people and underserved groups.
“Mali is currently experiencing unprecedented democratic and governance challenges,” she says. “My plans and hopes for AL Mali are to be on the front lines of supporting government institutions and citizen-led CSOs in understanding accountability, integrity, and the concept of good governance. My hope for Mali is that it will be a country where governance and democracy are a reality for the next generation.”
