In development work, impact is often measured by the value we add - whether it be to government ...systems, public infrastructure, or (most importantly) to people’s lives and livelihoods.
Determining this value requires looking beyond “what” we do to how we do it and who we serve. It’s also arguably the most effective way to conduct a landscape analysis for your organization and of potential partners.
With the recent aid cuts that have severely affected those in the development sector, many organizations are turning to strategic partnerships and mergers as the best means to keep their doors open and continue serving their communities. To effectively identify the organization that best aligns with your values and mission, conducting a partnership landscape analysis is key.
To help guide organizations through this process, Accountability Lab, Digital Public, and Development Gateway have created a strategic partnership toolkit and partnership matching service that can assist with understanding precisely what to look for when considering a potential partner or evaluating a merger.
Find out more about what to consider when conducting a landscape analysis and how to identify the partnership that best aligns with your organization here:

If you’re considering an organizational transition, taking stock of the parts of your mission you... want to preserve is critical. An inventory can help you prioritize each step you take regarding goals, projects, teams, and processes.
It’s worth noting that the elements that set your work apart may not be “things” but rather ways of working, such as toolsets or service architecture. Listing your team’s core skills, comparative advantages, and ongoing lines of revenue also helps identify what’s needed to keep the work afloat.
To support organizations navigate funding challenges, Accountability Lab, Digital Public, and Development Gateway have collaborated on a partnership matching service with professional support infrastructure. We’ve also developed the Civil Society Strategic Partnership Toolkit, with practical guidance for evaluating restructuring or merger options, and preserving key programs, expertise, and impact. Inventorying your organization as a series of component parts is not always comfortable, but it helps frame your value add, pitch, and potential partners.
