This article, shared by TASCK, highlights the impactful work of the Voice2Rep project, led by Accountability Lab, in promoting advocacy and good governance through music across Mali, Nigeria, Liberia, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Voice2Rep empowers emerging artists to use their musical talents to address critical social issues, such as transparency, civic engagement, and social justice. The initiative serves as a platform for young, undiscovered musicians to amplify their voices and advocate for meaningful change in their communities.

Voice2Rep began in Nigeria in 2018 with the goal of mentoring young artists and equipping them with the skills necessary to create music that inspires social change. The program includes comprehensive training that covers not only music but also the principles of accountability and political engagement. Artists receive mentorship from professional music producers, helping them refine their songs and ensure their messages resonate with audiences.

In 2023, Voice2Rep took a significant step forward with its Songwriting Bootcamp, bringing together 25 artists who produced approximately 10 new songs exploring themes like digital rights and freedom of expression. The bootcamp featured masterclasses from industry experts, fostering collaboration and creativity among the participants.

Voice2Rep’s collaboration with TASCK Agency has further expanded its reach, enabling artists to showcase their work at major events and engage with broader audiences. Partnerships with organizations like Luminate and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission have strengthened advocacy efforts, providing essential training and support.

As Voice2Rep continues to grow, its impact on young artists and their communities is profound, fostering a culture of civic responsibility and encouraging a new generation to hold leaders accountable. The initiative exemplifies the potential of music as a catalyst for social change, inspiring hope and action across the region.
