Terms of Reference: Accountability Lab Communications & Marketing Manager
Accountability Lab is a rapidly growing, creative and collectively managed civil society network. We make governance work for people by supporting active citizens, responsible leaders and accountable institutions. Our goal is a world in which resources are used wisely, decisions benefit everyone fairly, and people lead secure lives. We train, mentor and resource citizens to strengthen systems of accountability in order to unleash positive social and economic change. Accountability Lab is looking for a dynamic, creative and multilingual Communications & Marketing Manager to support its work and activities globally.
The Role
We are looking for a meticulous team player who is passionate about using communications for social change during an exciting time of growth at the Lab. The Communications and Marketing Manager will produce dynamic communications and media outputs to help grow the impact and footprint of the organization, helping to lead campaigns in a mission-driven and results-oriented environment. You will take the initiative as part of a small, agile team of three, supporting global communications leads in ten countries around the world.
Who You Are
You can efficiently and proactively liaise with multiple global teams and provide support around strategy implementation, narrative building and social media content and analysis. You love taking the initiative and are passionate about developing and sharing your skills.
You collaborate with cultural and gender sensitivity and take a keen interest in global politics, advocacy and issues of accountability and anti-corruption. You are an excellent multi-tasker who is able to independently prioritize and implement daily, weekly and monthly tasks.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Produce compelling global impact stories, infographics, newsletters and blogs about the Lab’s work for strategic public distribution;
- Contribute to and assist with the implementation of a robust social media strategy to achieve the weekly and monthly analytics goals and Lab’s global outcomes;
- Update and maintain a database and relationships with media and journalists covering the accountability and governance sectors;
- Secure ongoing print and digital editorial exposure in reputable publications;
- Conduct research and data-driven storytelling to inform impactful advocacy campaigns;
- Assist with research and production of organizational reports;
- Provide specialist communications, advocacy and public affairs training to AL programs around the world.
- Assist with the maintenance and updating of the Lab’s multiple websites, social media pages and Whatsapp channel.
To Demonstrate the Following
- A commitment to the mission and values of Accountability Lab, as well as awareness and understanding of accountability issues around the world;
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and attention to detail;
- Significant experience using Canva and/or Adobe, Mailchimp, Google Drive, Microsoft Office, WordPress and various forms of social media;
- Strong research, communication and graphic design skills;
- Superb relationship-building and organisational skills;
- Previous related work experience;
- Adaptable, resourceful, self-motivated and able to prioritize in a fast-moving environment;
- Must be a team player and be willing to assist with ad hoc needs, and occasional after-hours work, as required;
- French language skills will be a strong advantage.
Remuneration: Negotiable
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa.
