Accountability Lab (AL) is a global translocal network that supports active citizens, responsible leaders, and accountable institutions. We work across 10 countries to build creative, sustainable, and people-centred tools for accountability, integrity, and open governance. Our initiatives – such as Integrity Icon, Civic Action Teams (CivActs), and Civic Strength Partners (CSP) – amplify local reformers, promote transparency, and strengthen civic space.
Civic Strength Partners (CSP) is AL’s emerging platform to foster collaboration among civil society organizations facing financial and operational pressures amid shrinking civic space and declining development aid.
Position Overview
The Data and Research Associate will play a critical role in strengthening AL’s business development and strategic growth efforts. They will collect, analyze, and visualize data that supports fundraising, donor engagement, and organizational decision-making. In addition to supporting business development, the role will dedicate approximately 50% of time to the Civic Strength Partners (CSP) initiative — contributing to coordination, data management, and learning across this multi-partner platform focused on strengthening civil society collaboration.
The ideal candidate is analytically strong, highly organized, and passionate about civic innovation and data-driven decision-making in the social sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development Support (50%)
- Conduct background research on donors, foundations, and funding trends relevant to AL’s programs and geographies.
- Maintain and update AL’s internal business development database (including proposal tracking, pipeline analysis, and donor segmentation).
- Contribute to the design and drafting of donor prospectuses, pitch decks, and funding concept notes.
- Support data-driven donor mapping, prospect scoring, and portfolio analysis.
- Produce visual dashboards and evidence summaries for internal and external fundraising materials (e.g., impact data, performance metrics, geographic reach).
- Assist in developing and maintaining proposal annexes (results frameworks, logframes, performance indicators, etc.).
- Support the coordination, data, and learning functions of the Civic Strength Partners (CSP) initiative to strengthen collaboration and insight sharing across partners. (50%)
- Maintain and update tracking systems that capture engagement with organizations, consultants, and partners
- Prepare meeting notes, action items, and documentation to support timely coordination
- Develop and update simple dashboards and data summaries for reporting and decision-making
- Contribute to capturing and organizing lessons learned, case studies, and other learning materials
- Assist in the creation of communications and knowledge products that share CSP progress and results
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in data science, economics, political science, international development, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of professional experience in data analysis, research, or business development (preferably in the nonprofit or social impact sector).
- Strong skills in data management, visualization (e.g., Excel, Tableau, or Google Data Studio), and qualitative/quantitative analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in French or Spanish is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize research into actionable insights for strategy and fundraising.
- Familiarity with donor databases, proposal tracking systems, and social sector funding landscapes.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working across time zones and cultures.
