PAKISTAN

Accountability Lab Pakistan works in several regions of the country and was the first country office to launch an Integrity Innovation Lab – an AL initiative that offers contextualized and impactful training programs for young civil servants.

Integrity Icon: We celebrated our recent annual Integrity Icon Pakistan campaign at an awards ceremony and Integrity Summit in Islamabad, where we named and famed our five new winners. Congratulations to Roomana Murad Khoso, a Section Officer in the Finance Department of Balochistan; Shahzadi Noshad Gilani, a Traffic Warden and Deputy Superintendent of Police in Haripur; Nasir Bashir, an Assistant Professor at the Government Dyal Singh College, Lahore; Muhammad Naseer Musvi, the Deputy Director at the Directorate of Schools Education in Sukkur and Zile Huma, the Deputy Director for the Department of Press Information and Broadcasting in Islamabad.

Accountable Leadership and Design Thinking: Focused on modern tools, including design thinking and human-centered design, we’re training public servants to be more effective and ready to create solutions to address the public’s grievances. This work has been successfully implemented in partnership with the Civil Services Academy in Lahore, the Secretariat Training Institute in Islamabad, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Academy, the Information Service Academy, National Police Academy and Sihala Police College. More than 700 public servants have received training over the past four years.

Building Institutional Capacity of Public Accounts Committee: Building institutional capacity of Balochistan’s Public Accounts Committee(PAC). We do this by training its members and secretariat staff, developing an open and efficient management information system (MIS), institutional collaborations with other PACs within and outside Pakistan and promoting citizen-led accountability through public engagement campaigns.

Strengthening Anti-Corruption Establishment Balochistan: A project to build the capacity of anti-corruption officials on various skills and techniques to address white-collar crimes, asset investigation, tools and techniques for the prevention of white-collar crimes and financial intelligence techniques. This project is implemented with support from the World Bank through the Governance and Policy Project (GPP) in Balochistan.

Gov-HER-nance: Working with women and other underrepresented groups to build and strengthen their resilience in three districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against the negative impacts of COVID-19, future pandemics and health emergencies. The project engaged 2500 women from Peshawar, Mardan and Nowshera districts. We also created direct linkages between women and government departments to redress issues effectively.

SDG16 Innovation Challenge: A national competition to support young leaders to craft innovative and sustainable solutions to challenges related to SDG16.

Civic Action Teams: Focused on challenges in the solid waste and sanitation sector.

Accountability Incubator: Accountability Lab Pakistan recruited eight new accountapreneurs for the 2022 cohort. This group is investigating ideas for open government and participation.

Women’s Film Fellowship: Training young filmmakers in aspects of impact storytelling. Meet our filmmakers on our channel.
