FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monrovia, February 1 2021 – Accountability Lab Liberia, a nonprofit institution that makes governance work for people, announced today that it has changed the name of its Rap2Rep conscious music campaign to Voice2Rep.
The name change reflects the different genres of music that we’ve started attracting in our call for applications, which include hipco, rap, soul and pop. It is geared at having a more diverse campaign which stands to make the Voice2Rep campaign more meaningful for a larger proportion of the Liberian youth community that it is targeted at. It also aligns the Liberian campaign with other Accountability Lab global campaigns in Nigeria and Zimbabwe. The new brand is reflected both in the name as well as a new logo.
Voice2Rep is a first-of-its-kind music competition searching for underground and undiscovered music artists who support greater representation, participation and accountability. It is a means of using conscious music as a tool for social change. The goals for the Voice2Rep campaign remain the same; giving rising music stars a platform to make their voices heard, connect with socially-conscious leaders in the music industry, and build the skills they need to shape the future of the country through music.
Lawrence Yealue, Country Director of Accountability Lab Liberia, says the name change aligns the campaign with AL’s global efforts to encourage new narratives using music as a tool for greater social accountability. “We look forward to launching our 2021 campaign at the SDG Action Awards in March, which we’re proud to say included the Liberian campaign as an awards finalist. We’re confident that the new direction we’re taking will introduce this norm shifting work to even greater numbers of active citizens,” Yealue said
